We arrived in New York at the beginning of May to complete internships as students of the Netherlands’ Tio University. The 3-month-long program offers Tio students the opportunity to work in locations around the world, experiencing different cultures, work environments and lifestyles along the way. Now it was our turn!

As we set out on our international adventure, we searched for job sites together in the Big Apple, looking to deepen our knowledge of e-commerce in the country where the subject got its start. Nikki is an e-commerce student, while Romy studies hotel and event management.

Who doesn’t want to live in New York? But finding an apartment abroad would be a challenge since we didn’t know who to trust or whether online photos were reliable or up to date. We scoured the internet but had no success in finding an apartment that met our needs. Finally, we found The Local Stay, a company that arranges accommodations in the U.S., and are so happy we made the decision to work with them! They made it possible for two Dutch students to find the perfect place in a safe neighborhood. Today, we are living the dream on the Upper West Side, a perfect location for students thanks to its proximity to Columbia University.

We’re very happy in our New York apartment, using it as our base for travel throughout the city. You’ll often find us hanging out in SoHo, one of New York’s most beautiful shopping districts, or running in Central Park to find some peace in the big city. Another favorite spot of ours is the High Line, a park and walking path built on an old elevated train line that gives you the most beautiful views of New York from above.
